If You Find Unexpected Damage in Bt Corn . . .
When scouting for European Corn Borer (ECB), if more than 5% of plants in your Bt area have:
a) Multiple shot holes and elongated lesions on leaves, and/or
b) ECB tunneling within the stalk of the plant and/or
c) Broken tassels, lodging due to ECB tunneling or ear drop due to ECB
tunneling.
First, verify from your field records that Bt corn was planted in that area. Then contact your Field Agronomist. They will use a Bt kit to determine if the plant does express Bt in it and collect samples according to standard procedures set by the CCPC.
